Best High-Paying Freelance Gigs of the Week: September 2, 2019

Best High-Paying Freelance Gigs of the Week: September 2, 2019

New month, new gigs! These freelance writing opportunities pay at least $50 a piece, offer a full-time salary, or pay more than $25 an hour. Each one is labeled as a remote job, virtual job or work-from-home job, which means you can do the work from anywhere.

Also, here are 30+ sites that pay writers for articles and 20 high paying magazines looking for pitches, so be sure to check that out.

Note: I don’t know anything about these positions other than what I post. I weed out the seedy looking ones, but it is your job to be diligent when applying. Also, please don’t message me with questions about the postings. If a link doesn’t work the posting has probably been taken down because the gig has been filled. If you have a gig for freelance writers that pays at least $50 a peice or over $25 an hour, please contact me and I will include your gig in next week’s post.

Travel Writers wanted

Launched in October 2018, Roadtrippers Magazine celebrates road culture, Americana, and the great outdoors.

We are always looking for new writers and content creators to join our growing cadre of contributors and help us tell new and amazing stories from the North American road.

Please read these guidelines carefully before submitting an idea.

Currently, only pitches focused on the U.S. and Canada will be accepted.

Some general guidelines

Tell good stories

Roadtrippers Magazine’s number one aim is to tell good stories. We focus on first-person, boots-on-the-ground storytelling that puts the reader into the scene. It should be obvious that the writer has visited the place or experienced the event in person.

Have a point of view

Don’t pitch a story unless it has a clear angle. If you can’t sum up your idea in one neat, catchy headline, it’s probably not a great fit.

Offer a different perspective

We value diverse perspectives, both geographically and culturally. Road travel is so much more than what the typical Instagram influencer crowd makes it out to be.

What we’re looking for

• Ideas that tell the surprising, unexpected, or untold story of a place, person, or event

• Stories on Americana and the great outdoors, including roadside attractions, abandoned or offbeat places, national parks, Route 66, camping, weird museums, and more

• First-person storytelling

• Interesting, relevant news on road travel and road culture

• Interviews with unique characters

• Original photography

What we’re NOT looking for

• Listicles, roundups, or clickbait

• International travel (outside the U.S. and Canada) or air travel

• Vague ideas without a clear hook (“I just drove down the PCH, want me to write a story about it?”)

• Personal essays

• Reports from places that are impossible to visit or trips that are impossible to take

• Stories that could be written by anyone with a search engine

• Fiction

Seasonal content

We welcome creative pitches specifically geared toward something seasonal or timely. These are our current theme weeks and content target dates:

February: Black History Month

March 4-11: Universal Women’s Week

April 20-28: National Parks Week

May 1: Small Business Week

May 13-17: Museum Week

May 27: Memorial Day / Start of Summer

June: Pride Month

July 4: Independence Day

September 26–October 2: Fall Foliage Week

October 31: Halloween Season

Late November: Thanksgiving

December: Christmas / Holiday Season

Please familiarize yourself with Roadtrippers Magazine before crafting your pitch, so you know what topics and angles we may be looking for.

We pay rates that are competitive with other online publications. Fee: US$250-1,000 per article

Please send your pitch to pitches@roadtrippers.com. Include a suggested headline, a short description of the story, and links to a portfolio or previously published articles.

We read all pitches, but due to the volume we are unable to respond to all of them. If your idea sounds interesting, we will be in touch (typically within two weeks). Sourced from site’s guideline page.
